Description

These are the reproduction sets of Bones of Contention as used with the game of Fortuna, previously exhibited in the Museum of the Church of Bleeding Gums.

The game of FORTUNA was originally used for divination and fortune telling. In later years it was adopted by Roman troops who also used it for gambling. It was later revived in the
16th century purely for gambling, and became popular throughout the inns and taverns of Europe. Played with bones and shells, the rules are unknown.
